Paris Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2019’s show had a spectrum of new styles, some standout set pieces, and a heartfelt goodbye.
The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode is sure to be gearing up for the next show cycle, but for now let’s take a look at some of the most memorable designs.
Fashion Wonderland
The fashion may be the focus, but the experience is key. Here’s how some of the big names added environmental context to their lineup.
Chanel’s show recreated a winter ski town with fake snow for Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection of ski-inspired garments. An emotionally charged show and a fitting send-off for a legend of the fashion industry.
Similarly, Jacquemus created a life-size town square to house his vivid designs and ultra-tiny handbags as an homage to his childhood.
Thom Browne’s show featured a caged-off, retro, corporate office that reflected the eccentrically-tailored suits making their way down the runway with briefcases in hand.
Louis Vitton’s show transplanted a colorful, industrial landmark, the Centre Pompidou, into the Louvre’s grounds. A perfect setting for the punk-chic fashion strutting down the runway. Denim and leather galore.
Alexander McQueen’s show took place in a rundown warehouse fit for the edgy-meets-elegant looks making their way through the crowd.
Marine Serre brought the nightclub to the forefront with smoke and pink strobes to highlight the designer’s eclectic collection.

What’s Trending?
As always, the runways are a look into the near future of popular fashion. Here are some looks that you may see walking down the street soon.
Tiny Handbags: A little handbag makes a big statement. What more do you need (besides some extra space)? Thank Jacquemus for your next fashion obsession.
XL Pants: The retro trend of flowing, oversized pants is still kicking and has become a staple once again.
Check Patterns: The timeless look that continues to be reinvented. This year saw oversized, obvious checkerboard patterns, plus the lumberjack classic Tartan and Buffalo check making a return to form. Check out Dior’s collection for some highlights.
Shearling: Shearling is still in as a conscious alternative to fur and it popped up in many designers’ collections.
So Much More: There were plenty more looks that may or may not catch mainstream attention from oversized bucket hats and cube-shaped handbags to full body suits (thanks, Marine Serre) and statement shoulders. Who knows what will catch fire.
The best way to get ahead of the curve with the next fashion trends is to check out the show’s looks for yourself. Be inspired!
