What can we expect from 2019 fashion? Plenty if you know where to look.
Here are some big trends on the radar for 2019 fashion:
Sustainable Statement
The trend of sustainable fashion is here to stay, but it’s evolving just the same.
The use of vegan materials like faux leather, locally sourced and created with as little environmental footprint as possible is the how. Indie fashion and the disruption of traditional industries is the why.
Sustainable fashion is inextricably linked with social media’s revealing and empowering influence. Expect to see more brands go green while pulling back the curtain across their social profiles. Expect to see independent brands continue to rise from the woodwork on this wave of change.
Color Pops
The color forecast says a lot of things: red, yellow, pink, sunshine shades, sorbet, neon, tie dye.
All we can really tell from that is: Color will be bold.
Expect to see splashes of color when dressing up or dressing down. Fluorescent tailoring isn’t out of bounds.
Solid color blocking is going to be key to reining in these vivid shades. Whether it’s a monochromatic outfit from head-to-toe or intentional matching of multiple hues. All-white isn’t out of bounds either!
The only real advice is to brush up on your color theory and remember to be BOLD!
Texture Tested
Texture isn’t far behind color, with some fun fabrics joining old standbys.
Crochet is cool. Weaved and knitted dresses, hats, bags, and more that bring your grandmother’s style onto the runway.
Industrial fabrics always show up on the runway, but only the bravest fashionistas can rock these in the real world. Colored Lamé can add a serious sheen to your style. Rubber is surprisingly chic when used sparingly. Transparent plastic when you want to show off. Cargo is a safe bet for a utilitarian look.
Denim will never die. A timeless classic you’ll be safe to rock from dark to light, selvedge to acid washed. Expect to see it continue to stretch beyond jeans too with vests, accessories, and full on Canadian Tuxedos.
Ruching is on the rise. A subtle sewing trick that can accentuate contours or add some noticeable ruffles.
A Clash Of Cultures
Fashion continues to come back around to the past with Nineties styles staying strong.
If it has a place in Sweet Valley High or Saved By The Bell, it’s no stranger to 2019. Light denim, swirling graphics, fanny packs (maybe…).
The return of square toed shoes may be here too.
The Early 2000s are beginning to peek in too with low-rise, flared pants and crop tops.
Neo-Bohemian is still floating by with popcorn cardigans, knit pleated skirts, earthy tones, and a 70s aesthetic.
High Society Couture is mainstream too with ruffles, puffed shoulders, tulle, taffeta, sequins, silk, satin, and feathers.
