The global pandemic has put a temporary end to fashion events as we know it. Major fashion staples in London, Paris, Milan, and more have been cancelled or postponed. Months and years of work put on hold.

But there’s a silver lining to everything and the quarantine’s boundaries and free time have seen the flourishing of some unique forms of fashion expression.

Pillow Fashion

The first viral fashion hit of the quarantine season came in an unexpected form: pillows. Talk about doing a lot with a little.

This tongue-in-cheek chic trend is literally taking a pillow and a belt and calling it high-fashion. It might not tick all the boxes for you hardcore fashionistas, but it’s a fun, lighthearted trend that we could all use right now.

At-Home Haute Couture

Pillows were just the beginning.

Leave it to a fashion trendsetter to set a new trend during the quarantine. Billy Porter, known for his incredible outfits, offered a challenge to bored fashion fans to recreate his 2019 Met Gala costume with things around their house.

Safe to say that was a smashing success.

But it didn’t stop there, the next challenge was for fans to show their best runway walks and that led to some incredible quarantine chic creations.

And that was just the tip of the creative iceberg.

Using everything from cardboard to newspapers to trash bags to  actual fabrics to ramen noodles people are still bringing haute couture home.

Some enterprising influencers also put together “Quarantine Fashion Week 2020” where they showcased their creations to an audience of over 3.5 million people!

Tie-Dye DIY

People are getting sick of the same old house clothes and opting to get their hands dirty with some old-school, at-home fashion creation.

Socks, shirts, pants, you name it and influencers are dying them into bright psychedelia. There’s more than one way to tie-dye a shirt too as it turns out. Swirls, spots, slats, and flower power galore.

We don’t know if this trend will continue after the quarantine is over, but we’ll all have tie-dye in our closet before it’s over.

Classy Loungewear

When you’re stuck at home in your comfy pajamas all day every day, you might want to get better pajamas. There’s nothing inspiring about gray sweatpants and an old t-shirt. We know that dressing better can have positive effects on productivity and mood, but influencers and brands are finding that people want to stay comfortable too.

That means instead of going all out on an outfit, they’re just elevating those loungewear classics. Casual upgraded.

Flowy designs, soft and luxurious fabrics, embroidery and relaxed tailoring. Like the athleisure revolution before it, loungewear is getting the mainstream fashion treatment.

All of this goes to show you can’t stop fashion. Designers and fashionistas will continue to be inspired rain or shine, inside or out. We can’t wait to see what the at-home fashion world has up its sleeves next.
