It’s that time of year again to break out our beach bods and break down the sexiest styles combing the sands this summer. There are plenty of expected extensions of recent trends and some surprising twists.
Check out the major styles and some products you should consider for beachwear in summer 2018:
The One-Piece
The legendary one-piece is back in action thanks to the wave of ‘90s nostalgia. Real deep Vs, high-cuts, and a lot of skin.
Just look at the amount of one-piece variety (and affordability) from Forever 21. Or these solid color styles from Gooseberry. Or get your ‘80s on with this abstract, one-shoulder jumpsuit from Summersalt. A sexy-yet-neutral, stringy deep V. Something with more detailed print.
Or how about this Sian Swimwear one-piece that combines vintage and modern all into one?
Bold Patterns
Pucci-esque patterns, wide stripes, vivid tropical prints, and playful patterns.
Psychedelic bikinis with ruffles to spare. Solid stripes from Solid & Striped. Abstract art right from the museum.
Fruit patterns are taking the spotlight too. From this banana one-piece straight out of your mom’s kitchen wallpaper to sweet and tasteful cherry prints.
Belts and Ties
All sorts of ways to keep your suit together (whether practical or not) including belts, front-ties, suspenders, and harnesses. It’s a vintage throwback with a new lease on life.
For belts, check out this ribbed piece from Solid & Striped. Or this abstract one from Seea. How about a vintage belt look? Maybe avoid this look though.
Looser, fabric front-ties abound like this skimpy, multi-patterned series or this playful pin-up style.
Sporty Activewear
That sporty style is back, but a bit more minimalist and abstract this year. For those that don’t want to just get a tan or lounge. It’s all about solid form and graceful function. Perfect for that volleyball match or summer adventure!
A solid 2-color style from Duskii. A throwback gem from Adidas. A fit and furious get-up from Mapalé.
Or just start skimming this massive athletic swimwear catalog from Athleta.
Velvet?!
Besides suede, there aren’t many fabrics that sound less at home on the beach, but velvet has actually been making some waves on the runway. It seems to be more practical than it seems at first glance.
How about some blue velvet in a classic triangle design? Or an upscale one-piece complete with gold ringlets? Or a draped tankini that may be better off staying dry?
Custom Coverups
There aren’t many ways to accessorize when you’re letting it all hang out with swimsuits, but a cover-up is the perfect companion. Since you’re covering up, you can rock a whole different style or get matchy with your swimsuit.
Go uber-elegant with a sheer black. Bright and sunny with these solid colors. Flirty and ruffled with this silk-chiffon mini dress. Continue that fruit print trend with a little citrus. Rock a breezy jumpsuit from street to surf. Show some skin with this fishnet sweater.
The cover-up possibilities are endless!
